Sprucing up your kitchen

There's something about summertime that can put even the least likely home improvement person in the mood to take on small home improvement projects. If updating your kitchen is the list of to-do's this summer, here are a few of our tips for sprucing up your space.

Backsplash

Adding tile backsplash can add personality and character to your kitchen. A classic look that never goes out of style is the traditional white subway tile. Using subway tile offers a fresh look that is easy to install and clean. Looking for something more colorful? You might want to consider mixing in an Italian themed mosaic. These tiles offer bright hues of yellow and blue.

Fresh paint

When they say a fresh coat of paint can go a long way, they aren't lying. Updating your kitchen to a light tone (think gray or tan), can open the space and give you a blank canvas for accepting with pops of color.

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring used to be the eyesore of kitchens across the U.S. Not anymore! Offered in a variety of shapes, colors, and textures, laminate flooring is easy to install and is engineered to look and feel like stone or hardwood. Adding new flooring to your kitchen can get rid of old stains and tie in any other new additions you're thinking of completing.

New hardware

Replacing old faucets, light switches, door handles, and pulls can really give your kitchen an updated look. Why go with basic stainless steel? Spend some time looking for fun sets that match your new decor. Love the idea of Italian mosaic tiles? Couple that with a brushed bronze faucet and blue ceramic handles/pulls for a Mediterranean feel.
